Winds blow through the streets and tear roofs off housees and trees from the ground.

Windows break, and the heavy rians pour in. They cause mudslides and floods.

Buildings are ruined, and lives can be lost. This is the terrible power of typhoons.

Each year, around twenty-six tropical cyclones from in the northwest Pacific Ocean.

About four of those come to Taiwan, one of the most typhoon-hit places on earth.

Within one year, more than US$ 400 million is spent to clean up damage that is caused by severe weather.

每年約有廿六個熱帶器旋在西北太平洋形成

當中有四個來到台灣 ─ 全世界最常遭到颱風侵襲的地方之一

一年當中，超過四億美金被花費在清理嚴峻天氣所造成的損害

To understand typhoon better, Taiwanese scientist Dr.Wu Chun-Chieh formed the first typhoon hunting program in Asia.

He and his team use a special airplane to fly into and above the storms.

He has also teamed up with Japanese and American typhoon hunting groups to get information from the center of a typhoon.

It is dangerous work, but Dr.Wu amd his team are gathering important data from these storms.

They hope to use that information more accurately.

為了更了解颱風，台灣科學家吳俊傑博士打造亞洲第一個追風計畫

他和他的團隊使用一種特殊的飛機飛到暴風的內部及上方

他也與日本和美國的追風小組合作以獲得暴風中心的資訊
