Judy runs into her neighbor, Calvin, in the hallway of their apartment building.

Judy is carrying groceries and an umbrella.

C Calvin J Judy

C:Can I help you carry those?

J:Thanks!

C:Is it still raining cats and dogs? I hope the weather clears up soon.

J:Didn't you here? A typhoon is supposed to hit tonight. I bought thses groceries to get ready for it.

C:I've never been in a typhoon before, but it can't be that bad.

J:Yes, it can. The power could go out, and we could be without water for a week.

C:It's really that serious?

J:Sometimes. I know you weren't in Taiwan for Typhoon Morakot last year, but it was terrible.
More than 600 people were killed in the mudilides and flooding.

C:Now I'm really nervous!

J:If you prepare carefully, you won't need to worry.

C:I suppose I should have somedrinking water and food.

J:Yes. Make sure the food and doesn't need to be cooked. Take this. (She hands him a flashlight.)

C:I guess I'll need this if the power foes out.

J:You should also tape your windows. If you want, I can come over and help.

C:I'd really appreciate that. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.
